Hi Creekside Families,
We had a fun day at the all-school beach day last week- thanks to all of you who made it!
This Friday, Sept 11, is our first day of Enrichment Classes at Rideout Community Center in Tahoe City. The address is 740 Timberland Drive. Classes are held from 9-2:30 this week (please note attached class schedule), with K-2nd ending at 2:00, but optional, supervised playground time til 2:30. If you need to pick up your child later than 2:30, RAP (Rideout Afterschool Program) is available- please check in with TCPUD to set that up. Starting next week, 3rd-6th graders who would like to participate in the First Lego Robotics League teams will meet early on Fridays- 8:15-8:30, as well as other day(s). Info coming home first week of classes about commitment and club times.
Fall classes run for 12 weeks and it is $300 for the session. This is a great deal- works out to $25 per day! We have a great line up of teachers and classes. Make checks to Creekside PTO or pay online at creeksidepto.org. You may set up a payment plan or discuss scholarship program with Melissa Panico, PTO Treasurer. There are PTO envelopes in each classroom, a box in the office, you may pay Friday at Rideout or online on the website- creeksidepto.org.
Lego Robotics Club information will come home the first week of classes, and is offered to 3rd-6th graders. 4th-6th will be mixed grade teams. Kids will need to meet on other days besides Fridays (probably Tues and Wed afternoon, as well as competition date(s), as well as do some fundraising. This is a really neat opportunity to experience a competition revolving around engineering, robotics, team work and good sportsmanship. Students will have responsibilities that focus on areas of science mixing with business, including research, problem solving, economics, marketing, outreach and engineering- all while having fun building with Legos and robotics. Check out the program atlegofirst.org and look for info coming home this Friday.
Please make sure to be on time each week, as it helps classes to run smoothly. If you would like to come before 8:45, please supervise your child. If you have a child in Lego Club or a sibling of a child in Lego Club, you may drop kids off earlier on those days. This starts Sept 25. It is too hard for us to supervise kids outside or in gym while setting up for the school day otherwise.
Please remember to bring snack, lunch, water bottle and apply sunscreen. Also make sure your child has a PTO emergency card on file (attached, same as last years, if you already filled one out), as well as a release of liability for the PE class- attached SnowFit forms. If your child has any allergies or medical conditions we should know about, please discuss with us.
You do not need to sign in each morning, but you will need to sign out. Please note on roll sheet in morning in your child's first classroom if someone else is picking them up after school, including A+ or RAP. You can also email me: firstname.lastname@example.org. You don't need to let me know if you are missing a week of classes.
Volunteers are so helpful in making the Friday program a success! It is a great way to fulfill volunteer hours, spend time checking out what your kids are learning, and help run a PTO program. Lunch and recess time are especially valuable! You may sign up to help with classes online- creeksidepto.org, and also on Friday at the PTO table. The time slots we try to fill on Fridays are 9-12 and 12-2:30, for each grade. You may also discuss volunteering with Kim Kerrigan, PTO Volunteer Coordinator.
Attached are forms (release of liability) for the Squaw Ropes Course field trip, Friday Sept 18, 9-4. This will be a great day. Thanks to the Desens Family who owns Squaw Adventure Center for a great deal- $20 per student! K-2 does ropes course, climbing wall and trampoline bungee. 3-6 grades do orienteering course in Shirley Canyon and Ropes course. We still need volunteers in some grades- please sign up Friday if you are interested- we are heavier in some grades and light in others.
Attached also are forms for the overnight trip to Sierra Nevada Journeys, Grizzly Creek, Portola on Friday, Oct 2-Saturday, Oct 3. Such a fun trip when we went before! K-6 kids are welcome, and we need a couple more chaperons of older children/for older groups. No non-elementary siblings please. Please fill out attached forms to chaperon and sign up this Friday at Rideout. Students are only $70 (usually price would be $85, but PTO is picking up a portion) and Chaperons are $35 (again, PTO is picking up part of the tab). Fees cover classes, lodging and food. We arrive at 11 am Friday and leave 5 pm Saturday. Classes: All kids will participate in Pond Ecology, Forest Hike/Science, Team Building/Ropes Course elements and Campfire Activities at night. Younger campers will also have Nature Art and Cooperative Games. Older kids will also have Archery and Geodesic Domes. Check out their website for more info: sierranevadajourneys.org.
